That Awkward Moment When…

Explore: There are some times when I wish my life was a movie and I could just jump to the next scene. I have a highly tuned awkwardness detector and feel very uneasy when faced with a situation where someone is made to feel uncomfortable. In a movie, unless they are intentionally setting up an awkward situation, they just cut to the next scene before things get weird. Unfortunately, that is not the case in real life. In real life, when things get awkward, someone has to construct an escape route or try to smooth things over so life can continue on, we can’t just jump to the next action sequence.
Application: While in the Bible we do not hear about every single bit of detail, it does show us some awkward consequences of people’s behaviour. Many of the Psalms express that non-scripted moment of waiting on God to respond, the gospels often speak of that awkward moment when Jesus does something out of the norm, and here in Exodus we read of the unpleasant consequences of the frog plague. When we hear the story in Sunday School we just move from one plague to the next, however, the Bible reminds us of the on-going consequence of Pharaoh’s hardness of heart. This is a great reminder that God is there in the awkward moments as well. He is in the midst of the action sequences of our lives, but he is also there when things get uncomfortable and we are left in the awkward situations. God did not leave His people in slavery and He will not leave us either.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for being there for us in all times of our lives. Amen.
