Explore: I’ve just finished watching the Lord of the Rings trilogy. It’s an epic tale told over three very long movies so it took me a little while to get through them all.
Throughout the story there are a number of incredible battles. The enemy has an army of thousands so the good guys have to gather allegiances from old allies to make up numbers.
Some kings honour these partnerships whereas others need a little more convincing. And, like all good battle stories, some armies turn up right at the last minute when all hope seems lost.
Application: While I don’t want to downplay the hardship of war, Psalm 46 talks about God turning up during times of battle. While the writer was very possibly talking about a literal battle, I feel there are often challenges in my life when I need God to turn up.
To be honest, sometimes I struggle to sense God’s power initially. Sometimes God is like the army that turns up right at the end.
Our faith though gives us the confidence that we can declare Psalm 46 in our own life and follow a God who brings our battles to an end.
Prayer: Lord, I pray You will turn up to help me fight my battles. May I take Your lead and follow Your wisdom in all the challenges that come my way. Amen.
